Audio Intersections.

I had the fortune to visit a house a few hundred feet from this intersection and thought the names quite fitting for audio.  On this visit I saw a few interesting things the first being this amp.

That Marantz meter is really telling of the specialness of this particular amp.  This was the prototype for the Marantz model 5.  Another really cool thing was this 7C.

The collector would probably scoff at the labeling on the back but this was Sid Smith's 7C so I suspect an exception could be made.

It also represents a relatively low serial number which adds to its coolness.

  1. A prototype of the model 7 AND a prototype for the Sid model 7 modified in the end of the 70's/start of 80's. Fantastic finding and seems not to far from Sidney Smith last home.

At one point I was thinking that it was Dr. Ijaz Khan who inherits all Sidney old audio stuff.

I am in research on what precisely are these modifications he has done to the model 7, any ideas or people I can ask ? I am a huge fan of Sidney Smith work.

  4. According to Zillow, Sid Smith's home on Sea Cliff was sold in Sept of 2015. Were you able to acquire these prototypes from Sid's widow, Marilyn? I am guessing she was getting ready to move....

  5. I would like to purchase the Model 7 prototype. I plan to restore it to it's original 1958 appearance using all original parts. Please contact me at area code (six-one-nine)four-zero-eight-nine-three-one-one.

    Thank you!
