Some Teflon capacitors for the LCR RIAA corrector....

.

one of the beautiful things about using dave's discrete inductors for riaa (besides the fact that they are 80% nickel!) is that you can choose your own capacitors... none of this "riaa in a can" business that you get from other companies....

so here are some shots of the caps I use... true foil and teflon... silver leadouts... and potted in wax.... the best I have found so far....

  1. insanely amazing!

    2 questions:
    1) what kind of consistency do you get (in capacitance)?
    2) what happens if you exceed the voltage rating (wax museum?)?

  2. getting value is easy.. have a meter next to you.. overwind and then back off......

as to explosions... well, in all these years I have only had one go bang.... it scared the hell our of me... I was actually trying to do a very careful a>b comparison.... late at night.., quiet house... and concentrating on a trumpet... and then BANG!!!  an electrolytic in the field coil power supply  popped.... made a mess of paper and foil inside the chassis, but the supply kept right on doing its thing...... but I nearly jumped out of my skin like that cap.......
